Thank you, I think you are correct. Are there differences in the "ripping" software - as it relates to video quality? if this is my "original" footage, any difference in which editing software to get?

I think you need to "rip" the video off the DVD into something the computer can understand. Typically I would save these files in DV format. These will be large, but then you won't have any re-compression and degradation of the video. Then once the…

if you have to shoot on a camera that records right to DVD (Sony DCR-DVD610), any editing tips so I don't completely destroy the quality of the image?
